==Overview:==
As the Equestrian Star Navy began to expand, the focus of aerospace
production shifted to the Pegasus sky-city of Cloudsdale with the formation of
the Equestrian Sky-Works, with heavier ground production shifted to Ironshod
Armaments of Appaloosa and DropShip production slated to start at the Royal
Griffon Eyrie. As a symbol of the cooperation between Equestria and the
Griffon Kingdom, a new scout fighter was designed to take advantage of the
specialties of each species. The griffons, with their natural eyesight and
talons became highly skilled at the manufacture of quality electronics; the
unicorns, with their long history of astronomic observation, came naturally to
optics systems, including lasers; the earth ponies showed great skill with
large-scale weapons manufacturing and the pegasi instinctively knew
aerodynamics and therefore flight systems. The resulting fighter, a heavy
scout to locate changeling hives as well as a stable missile platform for air
superiority, was designated the RCDF Whitesnake for its coloring as well as
its sleek profile.
==Capabilities:==
While not as fast as the earlier fighters, the Whitesnake has respectable
acceleration and maneuverability for a missile and electronics warfare
platform. The main reason for its existence are its powerful electronic ware
packages that enable it to locate enemy stealth units and designate them for
other units while throwing out a protective shroud of jamming and
counter-jamming. To provide a punch for the unit are the two wing-mounted
Class 10 missile launchers with powerful Artemis-IV guidance system. These
enable the fighter to burn through any opposing jamming and put the missiles
on target. For close-in use as well as a last-ditch offense once the missile
launchers run out of ammunition are the two Equestrian Optics ER medium lasers.
While better than nothing, it leaves the medium fighter with little better
punch than a light fighter.

Twilight Sparkle, Spike, and 'Whitesnake'
As one of the most gifted unicorn mages in Equestria, and having shown her
political mettle running interference during the negotiations leading to the
formation of the Equestrian Armed Forces, Twilight Sparkle was chosen to put
the prototype Whitesnake and its electronic systems through its paces. While
she and her assistant proved the power and capability of the systems, the
experience also showed that the easy and forgiving flight profile of the
fighter was well suited to its test pilot, who took some time to earn her
wings.
